ENVIRONMENT
EUFOR LOT MOSTAR is a component of the Swiss Armed Forces supporting the peacekeeping mission in BiH. EUFOR LOT MOSTAR fulfills both multi-national and national tasks. A small, local civilian workforce is employed in support of the military personnel/activities.

The Linguist Assistant has the main function to support the EUFOR Liaison and Observation Team (LOT) in Mostar with translation/interpretation services. He/she accompanies the LOT to various coordination meetings, information gathering sessions, assists them with local guidance in terms of cultural awareness and translates different documents and media material as requested.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
• Interprets in liaison and consecutive mode from English into local language(s) and vice versa on subjects of varying degrees of complexity and technical difficulty in meetings, public gatherings and patrols;

• Translates materials of different levels of difficulty, media outputs, routine correspondence and non-technical texts from English into local language(s);

• Supports LOT in arranging meetings with local authorities, traveling on assignments, planning for activities during patrols with particular emphasis on highlighting special events of the local population and advising on the cultural issues;
• Translates specific media news as requested by LOT.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• Completion of the Secondary Education (4 years) or upper;

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a professional linguist;

• Experience must include translation of routine written materials such as reports (or minutes and oral interpretation) of routine, non-technical, work-related communications;

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook);

• Ability to work in an inter-cultural, multiethnic and multinational environment;

• Availability for occasional evening or weekend work;

• National or legal resident of BiH;

• Certificate of no criminal record from the local and international courts;

• Previous working experience in an international environment is a plus;

• Completion of advanced English/ language courses is a plus;

• Education with emphasis on linguist is a plus;

Willingness to participate as a full member of the LOT; effective contributor even when team is working on something of no direct personal interest;

• Requirement to evaluate and solve patterned and interpretative problems involving daily or new issues. Problems resulting out of similar or different situations require interpretation of the situation, analysis and a choice between several options;

• Professional behavior, respect for diversity and excellent communication skills, adaptability, reliability, flexibility, loyalty and discretion are expected from the candidates.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
English (reading, speaking, writing): Very Good
Bosnian/Croatian/ Serbian (including Latin and Cyrillic alphabets): Very Good

GUARANTES
Full time job: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday
Holidays: 24 days per year
